Fighting against Family Violence: Perspectives from the Experience with Columbia, by Claudia C. Caicedo

Summary

In this article, the author suggests an overview of violence within families. She establishes its problems and cites international legal instruments which contribute to the fight against violence. In addition, she discusses the elements of implementing a public policy for preventing, detecting, monitoring and prosecuting such violence in Colombia. The objective is to see how public policies can open a door to implementing human rights and observing how the issue of family violence can mobilise different occupational sectors, such as education, health, justice and the media. It is through this overall context that we should focus particular attention on the possible role of educators.
