International Training Centre for Human Rights and Peace Teaching
22nd International Training session
Geneva, 5 - 11 July 2004
Theme
Fighting against Violence : The Contribution of Fundamental Rights and Justice
The persistence of violence in all its various destructive forms calls into question the very mechanisms put into place to put a stop to the former. In many parts of the world, the fundamental right to life is not guaranteed. In other contexts, justice is either muzzled or scoffed at, which reminds us of the obstacles democracies face when trying to rehabilitate this institution. Nor has the EIP escaped acts of violence. Whether it was the victim or instigator, the means already devised to educate about peace and protecting the rights of each individual must be implemented as a priority.
